MUN (Model United Nations)

"Model United Nations bezeichnet eine Simulation für SchülerInnen, in der die Arbeit der Vereinten Nationen (UN) nachgestellt wird. Die Organisation MUN ist eine weltweit anerkannte und renommierte Schüleraktivität, die bereits wenige Monate nach der Gründung der Vereinten Nationen im Jahr 1945 ins Leben gerufen wurde und seitdem an namhaften Schulen weltweit praktiziert wird. In der Model United Nations CCA an der DISD werden die SchülerInnen der Klassenstufen 9 bis 12 in gesellschaftlichen Grundfragen und Diskussion geschult, wobei ein großer Wert auf die Erweiterung des politischen und historischen Allgemeinwissens gelegt wird. Sie lernen, sich über komplexe politische Streitfragen zu informieren und diese mit anderen Schüler-Diplomaten zu diskutieren. Über die inhaltliche Vorbereitung hinaus, werden die SchülerInnen auch mit den Abläufen und Regeln der Debatten der Vereinten Nationen vertraut gemacht, indem sie beispielsweise Resolutionen entwerfen. Durch das Hineinversetzen in die Rolle eines anderen Landes entwickeln die SchülerInnen zudem ein Verständnis für die Probleme und Situationen anderer Nationen und Kulturen. Eine weitere zentrale Kompetenz, die bei MUN gefördert wird, ist Rhetorik, Verhandlungstaktik und Diplomatie. Neben der Vorbereitung in Form einer CCA hat MUN jedoch vor allem das Ziel, den Austausch von jungen politikbegeisterten Lernern in MUN Konferenzen auf der ganzen Welt zu fördern. Deswegen nehmen die SchülerInnen der DISD im Laufe des Schuljahres an einer lokalen und einer internationalen MUN Konferenzen teil, beispielsweisein in Asien oder Europa. Diese Tagungen imitieren die Struktur der Vereinten Nationen, indem SchülerInnen die Rolle eines Diplomaten eines der Mitgliedsstaaten der Vereinten Nationen übernehmen und die Meinung ihres Landes in simulierten Komitees (z.B. in der UN Generalversammlung oder im UN Sicherheitsrat) vertreten. Dabei diskutieren sie aktuelle weltpolitische Themen und entwerfen gemeinsame Resolutionstexte. Model United Nations refers to a simulation for students in which the work of the United Nations (UN) is re-enacted. The MUN organization is a globally recognized and renowned student activity that was launched just a few months after the founding of the United Nations in 1945 and has been practiced in renowned schools around the world ever since. In the Model United Nations CCA at DISD, students from grade 9 to 12 are trained in basic societal issues and discussion, with a strong emphasis on expanding their general political and historical knowledge. They learn about complex political issues of contention and discuss them with other student diplomats. Beyond content preparation, students also become familiar with the procedures and rules of United Nations debates, such as drafting resolutions. By putting themselves in the shoes of another country, students also develop an understanding of the problems and situations of other nations and cultures. Other key skills fostered at MUN are rhetoric, negotiation tactics, and diplomacy. In addition to the preparation in the form of a CCA, however, MUN's main goal is to promote the exchange of young learners who are enthusiastic about politics in MUN conferences around the world. Therefore, DISD students participate in one local and one international MUN conference during the school year, for example in Asia or Europe. These conferences imitate the structure of the United Nations allowing the students to take on the role of a diplomat of one of the member states of the United Nations and represent the opinion of their country in simulated committees (e.g. in the UN General Assembly or the UN Security Council). By doing so, they discuss current world political issues and draft joint resolution texts. "
